Important Notice for OCI/PIO

Applicants
     

1.     Only original utility bills will be accepted as proof of residence with the OCI/PIO application. Applications submitted with photocopies of utility bills will be returned. In case of driving licence/State Id photocopies may be accepted.

2.     Facility of personal delivery/pick-up at Travisa counter can be availed only by the applicant himself. At the time of personal delivery the photo-Id will be checked and the proof of residence will be verified by Travisa.

3.       OCI/PIO applicants are advised to refrain from approaching any agents for facilitation of OCI or PIO application. Neither the Embassy or nor the Consulate nor Travisa has  not authorized any agent to handle OCI/PIO applications. All applications routed through agents will be rejected.

Important Notice
Please note carefully:

Consulate is open for consular services only after 0900 hours. As per the City Administration and Building Code, NBC tower building security authorities do not allow entry into building, even at ground floor level, before 0900 hours. Hence Visitors should enter only in the building only after 0900 hours. The elevator does not stop on 8'th floor (in which Consulate office is placed) for coming up during 1230 to 1530 hours, hence visitors should come exact after 1530 hours inside the building.

"As per the Notification issued under Rule 8A of Registration of Electors Rules, 1960 by the Chief Electoral Officers of four election going States of West Bengal, Assam, Kerala and Tamil Nadu & election going Union Territory of Puducherry, please find enclosed Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) list along with the concerned states notification. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

"The emergency visa applications (from persons of Indian origin, holding US passport) will be accepted at the Consulate on Saturdays and other holidays coming on weekdays (Monday to Friday) only in case of emergency (death, serious illness in the family) between 1100 am to 0100 pm. However “entry visa” for the period of six months will be issued against the additional fees of US$100/- subject to providing visa application along with supporting documents [proving Indian origin i.e. “Indian Passport or its copy” or ‘Naturalisation (citizenship) certificate” mentioning ‘Country of former Nationality as India’ or surrender certificate or ‘Birth certificate and copies of parents’ Indian Passports”]. The total fee will be US$ 213/-. Decision of the Officer-on-duty shall be final in the matter.Please call on 312-595-0411 for emergency visa during the prescribed time above.".



For Indian Origin people:

Please note that if you have acquired US (foreign) Citizenship on or before 31 May 2010 and if you have "Cancelled" stamp on your Indian passport, then there is a no requirement of acquiring "Surrender Certificate". If you do not have a cancelled stamp on Indian passport then you need to get the "Surrender Certificate". However fees for that is US$ 20/- only.

However US (foreign) citizens of Indian origin who naturalized on or after 1 June 2010, they have to follow the above-mentioned procedure with requisite fees of US$ 175/- for "Renunciation and Surrender Certificate". .(Read ......More)

"Please note that if you have paid US$ 175/- towards "Renunciation & Surrender Certificate fees" and in some cases penalty of US$ 250/- also before the revision of rule by the Government of India on 1 June 2010, then do not send email/faxes/call for the refund, as your fees have been deposited in Government Accounts and can not be refunded immediately. After receipt of instructions of Government about such refunds, the same will be notified on the website and then such claims will be entertained".

It is a punishable offence to obtain or holding an Indian Passport suppressing information about his/her nationality or hold Indian Passport or travel document after aquiring US (foreign) citizenship. The violator shall be punishable by imprisonment up to 5 years and with fine up to US$ 1250/- under Passports Act 1967. • All foreign citizens holding tourist visas should note that as per the new rules prescribed by the Government of India there should be a gap of sixty days between two consecutive visits to India.
