-
The emergency visa applications (from persons of Indian origin, holding US passport) will be accepted at the Consulate on Saturdays and other holidays coming on weekdays (Monday to Friday) only in case of emergency (death serious illness in the family) between 1100 am to 0100 pm. However “entry visa” for the period of six months will be issued against the additional fees of US$ 100/- subject to providing visa application along with supporting documents [proving Indian origin i.e. “Indian Passport or its copy” or ‘Naturalisation (citizenship) certificate” mentioning ‘Country of former Nationality as India’ or surrender certificate or ‘Birth certificate and copies of parents’ Indian Passports”]. The total fee will be US$ 213/-. Decision of the Officer-on-duty shall be final in the matter. Please call on 312-595-0411 for emergency visa during the prescribed time above.
- Surrender certificate fee: US$ 175/- (if you are not enclosing the copy of the surrender certificate or renunciation certificate attested by the Indian Government Authorities, then only). This is applicable only in case of naturalized citizens of Indian origin and only one time. If you are applying for second or subsequent time for this service, you need to enclose the copy of “Renunciation & Surrender certificate”. Please click the link below to get the procedure for Surrender Certificate.
- Please note that valid visas in the cancelled/expired US/Foreign passport do not get cancelled, these remain valid till completion of their prescribed period.
- Please note that if you have a valid visa on your US/Foreign passport and you acquired new US / Foreign passport, then you can travel by carrying both old (having valid Indian visa) and new US/Foreign Passports to India.
- However, it is better to transfer your valid visa to the new passport as we often forget to carry our old passport after acquiring new passport. This suggestion is just to avoid an embarrassment if any at the airport or not making to our commitments because of forgetting old passport, while traveling. For transfer of visa also you have to apply through M/s Travisa Outsourcing.
- When you are seeking Indian visa first time after seeking US/Foreign nationality it is essential to submit your original Indian passport to M/s Travisa. This Indian passport will be cancelled and returned you back.
- The decision of the visa officer will be final for issuance of visa, period of visa and denial of visa. Do not argue on this with the Consulate officials.
