Please see the list of holidays before coming to the Consulate. In case the Government of India declares holiday with a very short notice, it is a responsibility of the applicant to see the same on the website or check from the Consulate and then travel towards the Consulate.

  • Please note that the Consular services will be available between 0900 to 1100 hours on 31 Dec 2011.

  • Please note that Saturday & Sunday are not working days.

  • The Consulate will be open on Saturday and all holidays (coming on weekdays Monday Through Friday) during 1100 to 1300 hours for emergency visa services only.

  • Please note, those applicants who are inside the Consulate premises, their applications will be definitely attended by the Consulate officials. However applicants are requested to be patient to save their and other applicants’ valuable time by not arguing with the counter officials. If you argue, your as well as other applicants services will be delayed which will waste everybody’s valuable time.
  • Please note that decision of the Consular officer will be final in case of all the services.  
  • Please note that if you submit the applications “in case of extension of validity of existing passports (only if current passport issued from Chicago), issue of passport on emergency basis, attestation of documents etc.” with all supportive documents, then services will be rendered on the same day, otherwise services will be provided by the date conveyed by the Consular Officer after submission of all required documents. 
  • Processing schedule, requirement of supporting documents, amount and mode of payment of fee etc have been under Consular services. However, this time schedule does not apply to cases where clearances required from the other Passport issuing authorities and nodal Ministries.
  • Urgent Service (same day) for Passport is available only in cases involving compassionate circumstances i.e. same day / next day travel due to death/hospitalization in the family back in India, against an additional payment of $ 150/- and production of confirmed air ticket in original. 
  • The emergency visa applications (from persons of Indian origin, holding US passport) will be accepted at the Consulate on Saturdays and other holidays coming on weekdays (Monday to Friday) only in case of emergency (death serious illness in the family) between 1100 am to 0100 pm. However “entry visa” for the period of six months will be issued against the additional fees of US$ 100/- subject to providing visa application along with supporting documents [proving Indian origin i.e. “Indian Passport or its copy” or ‘Naturalisation (citizenship) certificate” mentioning ‘Country of former Nationality as India’ or surrender certificate or ‘Birth certificate and copies of parents’ Indian Passports”]. The total fee will be US$ 213/-. Decision of the Officer-on-duty shall be final in the matter. Please call on 312-595-0411 for emergency visa during the prescribed time above.
  • Please note that emergency services are not available on any other count.  
  • Please note that additional fee for emergency service(s) has been fixed in accordance with instructions of Government of India and this Consulate is not empowered to either waive or reduce the same.

  • Please note that when you are calling to the consulate in unspecified timings (except emergency situations of death and illness of family members in India), you are delaying services not only in your case but also for others as officials need processing time for processing your applications.
