MR. ASHOK KUMAR ATTRICONSUL GENERAL

Mr. Ashok Kumar Attri was born in Shimla on 5th June 1953. Having done graduation Honours in English Literature, he joined the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in the Ministry of External Affairs of India in July 1975.
Since joining the Foreign Service, Mr. Attri has served in Indian missions in Kenya, Zambia, Canada, Vietnam, Switzerland, Nepal & Oman.
Mr. Attri was in the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi from July 1988 to August 1991, as Deputy Chief of West Asia and North Africa Division, looking after bilateral relations of India with Arab countries of this region. Mr. Attri was involved in the massive emergency evacuation of nearly half a million Indian nationals by air from Kuwait & Iraq in 1990-91. Mr. Attri was also the Chief of Coordination Division in the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi from 2002 to 2004.
In Nepal, Mr. Attri served on secondment from 1994 to 1998 in the Secretariat of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) of the seven countries of the Indian sub-continent during which time he got the SAARC Preferential Trading Arrangement (SAPTA) operationalized and South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA) negotiations started.
Mr. Attri served as High Commissioner of India to Zambia from 1998 to 2002 and Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman from 2004 till recently.
Mr. Attri is married to Mrs. Usha Kiran Attri. They have two daughters.
